Another SoCAl newbie here. Glad to find you, I'm, in Long Beach. Posted this under performance somewhere, would appreciate the help.
What I look for is less loudness, less flash, fewer decals, LESS WEIGHT, more form and function appeal.
Life is short, and enjoyment is perfunctory.
Hub, (and any others in-the-know)
you seem to know a helluva lot about exhausts, tuning, etc, so perhaps you can initiate me as to my criteria:
getting a slightly used 2007 zx-14, saff blue, was dumped on left side. I hate big pipes, (cans) want either Muzzy or R77, but:
4-2-1, min. hardware, less weight, keep it low (NOT big wide shiny tubes with huge graphics, keep lean clearances intact, stock lower fairing, AND ---no increase in dB levels. Not out to impress anyone but myself. What should I use, the Titanium GP version remember, low sound level is important. Small, low is less weight, but too loud?
2. I'm big, 6'-4' 260 lbs, aftermarket lower footpegs?
a. New CF fairing (higher?) need to replace old one anyway...
3. mirrors, go with stock or (my size) would leave me looking at my arms? Longer mirror arms? function important for better view
4. Paint job. No, I hate the shiny blue, hate flashiness, love a quiet stealth. Thinking carbon fiber nat. finish fairing (higher bubble rise) matched w/a matte black rat rod dull finish elsewhere (EVERYWHERE)
Where to look for parts? Where aftermarket fairings?(Higher center bulb) What manufacturer has the smallest, low pipes with least noise? Obviously expect some performance increase. Yes, I too prefer stock. May add a bold (clear translucent) horizontal flourescent stripe
for safety, slightly changing the paint gloss texture, but same black for side illumination at night. Ton of ideas, appearance-wise, need some direction -where to go? Ideas?
Previous bikes Harley '98, Honda '76 goldwing (no fairing) BMWs, GS1000, GS1150, GS1250PD Adventure,
CAR Example: 28 yrs ago bought a '79 Pontiac T/A 6.6 with all the trimmings, blueprinted engine, removed all the decals, names, tags, anything chromed, the screaming eagles, gold pinstripes, flashy wheelwell spoilers, removed rear spoiler, (added two underchassis spoilers for ground effect, barely visible) 105 oct aircraft fuel due to added compression, operable hoodscoop, Edelbrock manif., Hookers to 2.5" straight out sides, Holley, manual 5sp., dual dry clutch, helical ground gears, tighter posi, lowered, bilsteins, NOX, and black out light/brake switch, radar emitter, you get the idea, gobs of dark rumblin growl
Boston to Miami in 20 hrs. short dr 2 dr., Black as hell and sweet as the devil. Scared me at 181mph at Daytona trials. loose up front. Eventually, IT took a chopper to catch us @ Macon GA one moonlit night... thing got a bit out of hand, was prepping for cannonball, BUT true 5.5 mpg, and cops just followed me for fun in daytime. Yup, grew out of that, but those looks lingered. Now to the zx... not about speed, but stealth too.
When you stop laughing, let me know, thx
